Water, Electric, Sewer, Refuge & Burn Site

Connect Fees

There is a $20.00 connect fee for water and a $20.00 connect fee for electricity, for a total of $40.00. A minimum $250.00 Deposit may be required.  If  a deposit is not required at the time of New Connection, then if utilities are ever disconnected for non-pay of service, a deposit would then be required.  See Ordinance 2382, Section 1

Billing Information

City Bills are mailed the last working day of each month. They are due by the 10th of the following month. Delinquent notices are mailed by the 15th, with disconnects taking place for unpaid bills at 8:00 a.m. on the 21st of the month.

Bill payments may be mailed to the City of Sterling, P.O. Box 287, Sterling, KS 67579. Payments may be dropped by the City of Sterling Office located at 114 North Broadway during office hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) For customer convenience, bills may be placed in the drop box located directly to the right of the front door of the city office. This drop box is available 24/7.

Automatic Bill Payment

Automatic payments are deducted from bank accounts on the 10th of each month. If the 10th falls on a weekend, the deduction will occur on the following Monday. For more information and/or forms pertaining to automatic bill payment, contact the city office.

Refuse

Refuse service for the City of Sterling is through Stutzman, Hutchinson, Kansas. The Utility Clerk will take care of setting up this service for you. Residential customers receive once a week refuse curbside collection and every other week recycling.

Burn Site

The burn site is located south of Sterling, just before you get to the river bridge on the left side of the road. It is open dawn to dusk. Only leaves, tree limbs, and clean lumber accepted. If you use plastic bags for your clippings, please take them home with you. Do not leave them at the burn site.

There is a charge of $1.25 on utility bills for the burn site fee.
